The Buffalo Sabres could have a goaltending decision to make for Game 3 of their first-round series against the Boston Bruins.
Sabres coach Lindy Ruff pulled goalie Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen and replaced him with Alex Lyon after the Bruins' Viktor Arvidsson made it 4-0 with a goal 16 seconds into the third period of Game 2 on Tuesday.
Luukkonen had a nightmare second period, giving up three goals, including a dribbler from centre ice by Morgan Geekie that bounced in front of the goalie and got past him. Overall, Luukkonen gave up four goals on 19 shots.
After the Sabres' 4-2 loss, coach Lindy Ruff told reporters he "may play (Lyon) next game."
Luukkonen's second-period struggles came after he was sharp in the first period, making two saves on breakaways. He also was solid in a 4-3 Game 1 victory.
"If there's a bad bounce, bad goal, you kind of have to stop the bleeding. Wasn't able to do that tonight," Luukkonen said.
Luukkonen grabbed the starter's role late in the season after Ruff went with a two-goalie rotation for much of the year. Lyon played 36 games and Luukkonen was in for 35.
