It's suddenly nervous times for Buffalo Sabres fans.
Captain Rasmus Dahlin exited Monday's game against the Florida Panthers during the second period and was later ruled out with an upper-body injury.
It was not apparent why the defenceman left the contest, but head coach Lindy Ruff said Dahlin will not be available Tuesday in Montreal and is considered day-to-day.
Dahlin had enjoyed a solid start to the season with one goal and two assists in five games before tacking on another goal against the Panthers.
The Sabres beat the Panthers 5-3 on Monday to improve to 3-3-0 on the season.
Meanwhile, Panthers starting goalie Jacob Markstrom did not return for the start of the second period. He allowed two goals on nine shots in the opening 20 minutes and was replaced by Akira Schmid.
Head coach Paul Maurice gave some clarity on Markstrom following the loss.
"He just tightened up, so we pulled him,” Maurice told reporters. “We don’t think…there’s no injury there…Just standard stuff.”
Florida acquired the 36-year-old Markstrom in a trade with New Jersey to be the starter after failing to re-sign Sergei Bobrovsky, who left Florida to sign with Toronto in free agency.
