The Ottawa Senators went down a man on their blue line in the opening game of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Defenceman Artem Zub exited Saturday's series-opening game against the Carolina Hurricanes with an apparent injury.
The team did not immediately announce the nature or severity of the injury. Senators coach Travis Green said he had no update on Zub after the team's 2-0 loss.
The incident occurred in the second period as Zub laid a big hit into Hurricanes forward Seth Jarvis, but wound up taking the brunt of the pain as he skated back to the bench gingerly and had to be looked at before heading back to the locker room.
He did not return for the start of the third period.
Zub had 7:44 of ice time and three hits before exiting, lining up beside Jake Sanderson on the team's top pair.
The 30-year-old laced up in 81 games for the Senators this season, tallying five goals and 25 assists while playing an average of 20:48 of ice time per night.
