Ottawa Senators goalie Matt Murray's injury woes continued when he was hit in the head by Chris Kreider's knee and was forced to leave at 5:23 of the second period in a game Saturday afternoon against the visiting New York Rangers.
Murray was shaken up after getting bumped during the Rangers' second goal, when Kreider was crowding the crease and managed to tip an Antemi Panarin pass into the net to make it 2-1. The Rangers would go on to win the game, 3-2.
The Senators had no further update on Murray after the game.
Murray, 27, has struggled with injuries in his time with Ottawa, and was making his second appearance for the Senators this season after recovering from the flu during the pre-season.
While Murray, a two-time Stanley Cup champion with the Pittsburgh Penguins, was out, the Senators relied on the one-two punch of back-up Anton Forsberg and Belleville’s Filip Gustavsson. In his lone start to the season before Saturday's injury, Murray lost 2-1 to the San Jose Sharks, making 22 saves.
