Senators' Shane Pinto leaves game vs. Sharks after hard crash into boards

Ottawa Senators forward Shane Pinto left the game early after crashing heavily into the boards following a hit from San Jose Sharks defenceman Mario Ferraro.

Ottawa Senators rookie centre Shane Pinto left the ice during Thursday's game against the San Jose Sharks after a hard crash into the boards.

The play occurred just over a minute into the first period after Sharks defenceman Mario Ferraro hit Pinto as he rushed across the offensive blue line. Pinto then slid with all his momentum into the corner boards and left the ice holding his right forearm.

He returned momentarily in the second period but left again soon after. The team has announced he will not return due to an upper-body injury.

Pinto, 20, has one assist so far this season. The 2019 second-round pick was a Hobey Baker Award finalist after producing 32 points in 28 games with the University of North Dakota last season. He later joined the Senators for 12 games to end the 2020-21 campaign, registering seven points.
