The Ottawa Senators lost their captain in Saturday's game against the Philadelphia Flyers.
Defenceman Thomas Chabot didn't return to the ice for the third period after briefly leaving in the second.
After a 3-1 loss, coach Travis Green said Chabot suffered an upper-body injury.
It wasn't immediately clear what forced the 29-year-old blue-liner to exit, but Chabot was seen shaking his hand in the penalty box in the first period.
Chabot was a minus-1 with one shot on goal in 12:03 of ice time through the first two periods.
Through the first eight games of Ottawa's season, the 11-year NHL veteran had one goal and three assists whole averaging 26:59 of ice time.
The Senators have already dealt with injuries to a number of their top defenceman, inlcuding star Jake Sanderson.
