The Ottawa Senators could be getting their captain back in the near future.
Defenceman Thomas Chabot shed his non-contact jersey during Monday's practice and is trending in the right direction, head coach Travis Green told reporters.
"I'm not sure if he's going to go tomorrow (against the Vegas Golden Knights), but he's definitely close to playing," Green said.
Chabot last played on Oct. 18 against the Philadelphia Flyers, when he exited early with an upper-body injury. Green said at the time that he would be out one to two weeks.
Chabot was named the 11th captain in Senators history ahead of the season (and became the first francophone to wear the "C" in Ottawa), replacing Brady Tkachuk, who was traded to the Florida Panthers.
The 30-year-old had posted one goal and three assists for a plus-5 through nine games before injury.
