The San Jose Sharks said captain Logan Couture has left Thursday's game against the Edmonton Oilers with an upper-body injury.

Couture went down when he was hit in the torso with the puck on a shot from teammate Brent Burns while in front of the Oilers' crease.

The 32-year-old centreman logged nine minutes of ice time and registered one shot on goal prior to leaving the contest.

Couture has 47 points (21 goals and 26 assists) in 60 games this season, his 13th with the Sharks since he was drafted ninth overall in 2007. He was named captain of the club ahead of the 2019-20 season following the departure of Joe Pavelski.
