The San Jose Sharks were without their franchise player on Monday.
Superstar forward Macklin Celebrini was ruled out for the Sharks' game against the Dallas Stars with a lower-body injury, the team announced.
It is unclear how the 20-year-old phenom sustained the injury.
Sharks head coach Ryan Warsofsky gave minimal detail regarding Celebrini's status after a 5-0 loss to the Stars.
"(He) didn't play today. We will evaluate tonight and tomorrow and see where he's at," Warsofsky told reporters. "He's still being evaluated. He's in the building, so he's with the team."
Celebrini had five assists through San Jose's first two games after signing a five-year, $94 million extension in the off-season — making him the highest-paid player in the NHL — and being named the 11th captain in Sharks history.
The No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, Celebrini had 115 points (45 goals, 70 assists) and played in all 82 games during his sophomore campaign last season.
