The NHL trade deadline isn't until April 12, but due to border restrictions and quarantines, it would behoove the Canadian teams to conduct their business early.
One potential target for a team in the North Division could be San Jose Sharks winger Marcus Sorensen, whose contract expires after the current season.
"Marcus Sorensen in San Jose is more of a traditional rental," said Sportsnet's Chris Johnston during the "Headlines" segment on Hockey Night in Canada. "[Sorensen] only makes $1.5 million, he’s a UFA at the end of the year and I know he’s drawn some interest from the Canadian teams."
Sorensen, 28, has registered a goal and two assists in 16 games this season for the Sharks, who are currently second from bottom in the West Division.
Due to San Jose's current position in the division and Sorensen's pending UFA status, he'd be a prime target for any suitor in need of depth at winger.
"I do think he will be someone moving before the deadline," Johnston stated.
Sorensen's career-best season was back in 2018-19 when he recorded 17 goals and 13 assists in 80 regular-season games with the Sharks.
