Wednesday Wagers: Will the multi-point madness continue?

Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe talks about the boost that Mitch Marner provided to the team both in the locker room and on the ice since returning to the lineup.

There’s a decent chance you’re on a heater this week if you’ve been betting the player prop market – especially if you hit on a longshot multi-point wager.

We’ve seen several impressive individual efforts so far this week with San Jose all-star Timo Meier’s five-goal showing happening on the same night Blues teammates Ivan Barbashev and Brayden Schenn both posted four points, while Johnny Gaudreau recorded his first four-assist game since 2017 in Calgary’s win over Florida.

Individual efforts like the ones above are few and far between, but in keeping with this theme, listed below you’ll find some notable players capable of keeping statisticians on their toes.

There are only three games on Wednesday’s slate, however they feature some of hockey’s most explosive scorers.

Toronto Maple Leafs @ New York Rangers

This Original Six matchup is the penultimate game on Toronto’s six-game road trip and the featured game on Scotiabank Wednesday Night Hockey this week.

The Rangers are on a 6-2-0 run since New Year’s Eve while Toronto looks to stay hot and keep pace with the Lightning and Panthers.

Notable NYR odds to score three or more points…
Artemi Panarin (+557)
Mika Zibanejad (+878)
Chris Kreider (+922)
Adam Fox (+948)

Zibanejad is riding a five-game point streak and is no stranger to three-point games. He has 13 games with three or more points dating back to 2019-20, and was the last player to register a five-goal game before Meier’s incredible effort on Monday. Panarin, meanwhile, already has four outings with three or more this season.

Maple Leafs goalie Jack Campbell is having a strong campaign with a .931 save percentage and 2.13 goals-against average, yet the recently-named Atlantic Division all-star has allowed five goals in two of his past three starts.

Notable TOR odds to score three or more points…
Auston Matthews (+388)
William Nylander (+780)
John Tavares (+811)
Mitchell Marner (+948)

Those are some seriously short odds Matthews has. More than a third of his appearances this season have seen him register multiple points, but he only has two three-point nights.

Matthews has scored goals in 10 consecutive road games and could tie an NHL record by extending that streak to 11. His anytime goal odds are -105 chalk whereas a two-goal game sees four-to-one odds and a Matthews hat trick would see a whopping +2400 payout.

Arizona Coyotes @ New Jersey Devils

Both of these teams are looking to generate some momentum in this game available to watch on SN NOW Premium.

Notable players odds to score three or more points…
Jesper Bratt (+853)
Jack Hughes (+931)
Clayton Keller (+966)
Nico Hischier (+1200)
Phil Kessel (+1364)
Lawson Crouse (+1900)

No Coyotes player is even close to averaging a point per game this season, so bear that in mind before making a dart-throw multi-point wager on one of Arizona’s skaters.

Coyotes goalie Karel Vejmelka has faced more than 36 shots per night so far in 2022, and although he has had several standout performances, the reality is he often gets left out to dry. Does that happen tonight in New Jersey where Hughes will be riding high off his All-Star Game selection? The 2019 first-overall pick has three three-point games since Dec. 29.

Hughes’ anytime point odds are roughly -190 and his multi-point odds are approaching +260. Prior to his current two-game drought, Hughes had 12 points in a five-game stretch. His shot total is set at a suspiciously low 2.5 (with -167 odds) considering he has 31 shots on goal in his past seven games alone.

Colorado Avalanche @ Anaheim Ducks

The Central Division-leading Avalanche have scored at least four goals in every game they've played so far in 2022. Can that streak be extended against a Ducks team that has failed to score more than one goal in five of their past nine games?

Anaheim is also missing a number of key players, including Troy Terry who was placed in COVID protocols late last week. This is the lone late game on Wednesday and is also available to watch on SN NOW Premium.

Notable players odds to score three or more points…
Nathan MacKinnon (+322)
Mikko Rantanen (+332)
Gabriel Landeskog (+388)
Nazem Kadri (+511)
Cale Makar (+606)
Andre Burakovsky (+871)
Trevor Zegras (+966)

Zegras is the only Ducks player with a realistic shot at a blow-up game, according to the oddsmakers projections. Ryan Getzlaf, Jakob Silfverberg and Rickard Rackell all have +1900 three-point odds. On the other bench, there are half a dozen Avs players with three-point odds shorter than 10-to-one.

Rantanen already has eight games with three or more points this season, Kadri has six, MacKinnon five, Makar three, Burakovsky and Landeskog both with two.
