Minnesota Wild forward Kevin Fiala has been suspended three games for boarding Los Angeles Kings defenceman Matt Roy.
The hit that led to the suspension came early in the second period. As Roy pursued the puck in the corner to the right of the Kings net, Fiala pushed against Roy's numbers, sending him headfirst into the boards. Fiala was assessed a five-minute major for boarding and a game misconduct on the play.
Roy needed to be helped off the ice and didn't return to the game.
Fiala will forfeit $77,586.21 in salary for the three games he'll be suspended. He will be eligible to return to the lineup on Feb. 4 against the Colorado Avalanche.
