Kraken sign Jared McCann to five-year contract extension

Kraken leading scorer Jared McCann discusses his huge honour after signing a 5-year deal in Seattle, saying it's a lot of pressure off his shoulders to get the deal done, now he can just focus on playing hockey.

The Seattle Kraken have signed forward Jared McCann to a five-year contract extension, the team announced Tuesday, marking the first time a player has re-signed with the club in its history.

“I believe in this city and I believe in this organization,” McCann said in a video posted to social media.

The deal carries an average annual value of $5 million.

Originally drafted by the Vancouver Canucks 24th overall in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, McCann played for the Florida Panthers and Pittsburgh Penguins as well before being selected by the Kraken as part of the expansion draft.

In 50 games this season with Seattle, McCann has 12 assists and 21 goals, a career high.
