Three American men’s hockey players are in COVID-19 protocol one week before the Olympic tournament is set to begin, according to Daily Faceoff’s Chris Peters and Brad Elliott Schlossman of the Grand Forks Herald.
According to Peters, defenceman Steven Kampfer and forward Andy Miele are isolating in Beijing. Schlossman reports that defenceman Jake Sanderson travelled from Grand Forks — where he plays at the University of North Dakota — to Los Angeles but remains in isolation there.
“USA Hockey is optimistic they will be available to play once they clear, but it is unclear how long they’ll remain in protocols,” Peters wrote on Twitter.
The United States opens the tournament on Feb. 10 against China and faces Canada on Feb. 12.
