Three Canadian wrestlers qualify for Olympics

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Canadian wrestlers earned three gold medals and three tickets to the London Games at the FILA Pan-American Olympic Qualifying tournament Saturday.

Montreal’s Martine Dugrenier finished first in the women’s 63-kilogram weight class, while Leah Callahan of Calgary won gold in the women’s 72-kilogram class.

David Tremblay, also of Montreal, added a gold in the men’s 55-kilogram class.

Dugrenier and Callahan will join Calgary’s Carol Huynh and Tonya Verbeek of Grimsby, Ont., at the London Games, while Tremblay is the first male wrestler to secure an Olympic berth.

Meanwhile in the greco-roman event, Korey Jarvis of Guelph, Ont., was third in the 96-kilogram class and Edmonton’s Jack Bond came in fifth in the 66-kilogram event.
