Cassie Campbell-Pascall leaving Sportsnet, joins PWHL as special advisor

The Hockey Central panel congratulates Cassie Campbell-Pascal as she moves onto a new position as a special advisor to the PWHL and re-lives some of her best moments as a broadcaster on Sportsnet and Hockey Night in Canada.

Cassie Campbell-Pascall is leaving broadcasting and joining the Professional Women’s Hockey League as a special advisor.

Campbell-Pascall made the announcement on Monday Night Hockey during the second intermission of a game between the Montreal Canadiens and Winnipeg Jets.

“The opportunity to join the PWHL, and continue to have an impact on the women’s game, was one that I absolutely had to accept,” said Campbell-Pascall in a statement from the PWHL. “I’m extremely pleased to take an active advisory role in the advancement of a top pro league that is so full of promise.”

Campbell-Pascall is a three-time Olympian with the Canadian women’s national team who has been a leader in the sport for the past three decades in a variety of roles as a player, broadcaster and executive. She was named a member of the Order of Canada in 2017.

The Professional Women’s Hockey League is a new six-team league founded after the former Profesional Women’s Hockey Players’ Association absorbed the Premier Hockey Federation. It will begin its inaugural season on Jan. 1 when Toronto hosts New York.

“Cassie is an excellent addition to the PWHL and one that we’re all thrilled about,” said Jayna Hefford, PWHL senior vice president of Hockey Operations in a statement. “In the years I’ve known Cassie — including many as teammates on the ice — her leadership, passion and knowledge of the game have always stood out. Her impact on women’s hockey cannot be overstated and we know her expertise will help propel the PWHL to success.”
