LONDON — Crystal Palace has signed former Fulham captain Brede Hangeland for the new English Premier League season.

The 33-year-old Norway central defender left Fulham after the London club opted against offering a new contract following relegation from the Premier League in May.

The Houston-born player’s one-year contract at Palace was announced on Friday.

Hangeland said: "I just want to be part of a good group of players, working for a good manager, working really hard, and driving something in the right direction."
