TORONTO (May 24, 2013) Suit up and strap in – this is where legends are born. Sportsnet takes fans trackside at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday, May 26 for more than seven hours of exclusive Canadian coverage of the Indianapolis 500 – the greatest spectacle in racing, featuring live race coverage and premium content on Sportsnet, Sportsnet.ca, Sportsnet magazine, and Rogers Anyplace TV web and mobile.

 

Sportsnet’s Indy 500 broadcast coverage kicks off at 8 a.m. with back-to-back documentaries and tributes, leading into a  special, one-hour Indy 500 Preview Show  at10 a.m. ET/7a.m. PT that includes two special features from award-winning journalist Stephen Brunt, driver interviews, profiles and more. Live race coverage begins at Noon ET/9 a.m. PT on Sportsnet East, Ontario, West and Pacific, and RogersAnyplaceTV.com.

  • 8 a.m. ET – IndyCar 36 – The popular documentary series takes an in-depth look at the life of driver Simona de Silvestro and her Indy career
  • 8:30 a.m. ETA Hero’s Drive: The Greg Moore Tribute – a special feature from award-winning journalist Stephen Brunt on the emotional connection between Canadian driver James Hinchcliffe and his hero, the late Greg Moore.
  • 9 a.m. ETIndy Lights: Firestone Freedom 100 – Coverage of the Indy Lights series continues from Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indiana
  • 10 a.m. ETIndy 500 Preview Show – The one-hour special includes race analysis, breaking news, interview and key features, including:
    • A video essay from Stephen Brunt on the Indianapolis 500 and it’s role as an icon of America’s Love affair with the automobile
    • The story of Canadian drivers James Hinchcliffe and Alex Tagliani’s quest for the Indy 500 championship title
    • The race between drivers Helio Casteroneves and Dario Franchetti to capture their fourth Indy 500 win
    • 11 a.m. ETPre-race ceremonies – extended live coverage from Indianapolis Motor Speedway including driver introductions and interviews
    • Noon ETIndianapolis 500 – the 97th running of the Indy 500

 

Sunday’s race features a strong Canadian presence, with both James Hinchcliffe and Alex Tagliani having qualified in the top 11. Coming off his second win in the first four races of the season, Hinchcliffe looks to become only the second Canadian to claim victory at the Indianapolis 500 behind legendary auto racer Jacques Villeneuve (1995). He will start the race in the third row (9th overall) just ahead of Tagliani who will begin in the fourth row (11th overall) in the starting grid.

 

Sportsnet’s broadcast team will be front and centre at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday to provide pre-race, in-race and post-race coverage of the Indianapolis 500. Host Rob Faulds will be joined by long-time analyst and Canadian Motorsport Hall of Famer Bill Adam, pit reporter Todd Lewis, and Canadian and former Champ Car champion Paul Tracy.
