Sportsnet Serves Up Complete Davis Cup Coverage Featuring Japan vs. Canada, Jan. 30 to Feb. 1

TORONTO (January 28, 2014) With tennis fever reaching new highs in Canada, Sportsnet gives fans more reasons to cheer this weekend with live coverage of the World Group first round tie of the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas, featuring Japan vs. Canada, from Tokyo. Sportsnet’s coverage airs Thursday, Jan. 30 to Saturday, Feb. 1, with live match broadcasts beginning at 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT on Thursday on Sportsnet East, Ontario, Pacific and West (following the conclusion of the Calgary Flames game). Additionally, Sportsnet will have coverage of France vs. Australia throughout the weekend (Please see full broadcast schedule below).

 

Reporter Arash Madani heads to Tokyo to report on all the latest news, including pre and post-match interviews. Additionally, Rob Faulds will call the play-by-play for the weekend alongside analyst and former Canadian Davis Cup team member Robert Bettauer, while Brad Fay and analyst Damien Cox round out the broadcast team as hosts for the weekend.

 

Headlining Canada’s Davis Cup Team is world No. 11 Milos Raonic and No. 25 Vasek Pospisil, with Olympic Games gold medallist and eight-time Grand Slam men’s doubles champion Daniel Nestor and 11-year Davis Cup veteran Frank Dancevic rounding out the roster.

 

Hopes are high for Team Canada following a historic semifinal appearance against Serbia in 2013. With a win over Japan, Canada avoids elimination and will advance to the quarter-final stage of the tournament to take on the winner of Czech Republic vs. Netherlands, who are also going head-to-head in the World Group stage this weekend.
