– Eighteen of the world’s best men’s teams compete for a $100,000 purse –
TORONTO (November 18, 2014) Curling’s heavyweights are ready to dazzle fans once again as the National – the second event of the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling 2014-15 season – slides into Sault Ste. Marie, ON, Wednesday, Nov. 19 to Sunday, Nov. 23 at the Essar Centre. Sportsnet’s live coverage of the event begins Thursday, Nov. 20 at 9 a.m. ET/6 a.m. PT on Sportsnet East, Ontario, West, Pacific and Sportsnet NOW (full broadcast details below).
The all-men’s event will see the cream of the curling crop compete for a $100,000 purse, as 18 teams from around the world descend on Sault Ste. Marie for the round-robin style bonspiel. Included in the competition field is hometown favourites and Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games gold medallists Team Jacobs, while Team Howard (Coldwater, ON) returns to defend its 2013 National title.
Sportsnet’s broadcast delivers fans every rock and hit, with Rob Faulds calling play-by-play alongside 1998 Olympic silver medallist Mike Harris, 1998 Olympic gold medallist Joan McCusker, and recently retired curling icon Kevin Martin.
Fans will see more of their favorite teams this season, as Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling expands to five events, with the Elite 10 joining the Masters, National, Canadian Open (which now includes women’s teams) and Players’ Championship, increasing the total prize money to a $1 million purse (See below for dates, venues and ticket information).
