Gillian Robertson looks to make MMA history by becoming the first-ever Canadian women’s champion in UFC if she can dethrone strawweight titleholder Mackenzie Dern at UFC 330 on Saturday.
Dern vs. Robertson is a true grappler's delight, featuring two of the most accomplished submission specialists in strawweight division history. Both fighters have built their careers around elite groundwork, aggressive submission hunting and the ability to finish fights rather than simply control positions. And that’s just the co-main event!
Headlining UFC 330 is a welterweight title clash between reigning champion Islam Makhachev and rising contender Ian Machado Garry. Few fighters have matched the consistency of Makhachev, who brings a 16-fight UFC winning streak into his welterweight title defence. Makhachev enters the bout as one of the sport's pound-for-pound elite fighters, while Garry looks to complete his ascent to championship status after a series of impressive performances against top competition.
Philadelphia's Xfinity Mobile Arena will showcase two title fights and a lineup filled with established veterans and emerging contenders. But for Canadian fans, the spotlight shines brightest on Robertson, whose long journey through the UFC could culminate in a historic championship moment.

I do not see many paths to victory for Stoltzfus against Abdul-Malik. Short of Abdul-Malik making a drastic error, I think that he has Stoltzfus beat wherever the fight goes.
As much as it would be great to see Robertson become the UFC’s first Canadian women’s champion, I cannot overlook how difficult of a matchup Dern is stylistically. I have had a lot of trouble identifying viable paths for Robertson and think that Dern is likely to retain the title.
Getting Fernandes at an underdog price is difficult to pass up given how well he has performed during his UFC tenure. Fernandes has powerful leg kicks and can take advantage of that against someone as tall and lanky as Turner.
Brahimaj has never won a decision, but UFC 330 could be the night where it happens. Magny is notoriously difficult to put away and if it goes to the scorecards, Brahimaj could get the nod.
Alvarez has many ways to defeat Njokuani and as long as he does not play around on the feet for prolonged periods, he should be able to grind out a decision or find a submission.
DAN’S PICKS

Underdog: Vicente Luque +119
Dart Throw: Robertson wins inside the distance +650
Abdul-Malik’s physicality, athleticism and finishing ability make him a nice set-and-forget pick at -625. I’m expecting him to take care of business without too much trouble and continue his meteoric rise.
Johnson is my favourite straight-up betting pick. He’s undefeated at 8-0 and has the momentum and confidence of a prospect who continues to find ways to win. At -227, I think there’s still enough value to back him, especially if his pace and athleticism hold up over the course of the fight.
Luque is a great value play. At +119, you’re getting plus money on a veteran with legitimate finishing ability and a proven UFC track record. He’s coming off a submission win over Kelvin Gastelum in Miami where his ability to create fight-ending moments was on full display.
Canadian bias on my dart throw? Yes, please. But Robertson has made a career out of finishing bouts inside the distance. Dern is dangerous off her back, but as this fight gets dragged into championship rounds all it takes is one mistake (from either competitor) and the fight is over. A grappling classic awaits, and perhaps Canadian MMA history for Robertson.
