Alexander Volkanovski is not ready to retire — as long as he keeps winning.
The UFC featherweight champion said his decision on whether he will continue fighting will depend on how his title defence against Movsar Evloev on Oct. 24 at UFC 333 goes.
"If things go terribly wrong, alright, we’re done,” Volkanovski said, per MMA Fighting. “If things go very well, like the last one, no damage, go through, all right, we’ll keep it rolling.”
Volkanovski, who is riding a two-fight win streak, will be 38 at the time of his next fight.
The Australian is in the midst of his second run with the featherweight title; he had lost it to Ilia Topuria in February 2024, but regained the belt after Topuria went up a weight class.
Volkanovski defeated Diego Lopes to get the title back, and beat Lopes a second time in the first defence of his latest reign. He holds a professional record of 28-4, but has suffered three losses in his last six fights.
He attempted to move up a weight class to lightweight, and suffered back-to-back losses to Islam Makhachev in 2023. His only career loss at featherweight was to Topuria.
