The Los Angeles Lakers recalled Canadian centre Robert Sacre from their Development League team on Monday.

General Manager Mitch Kupchak announced the Lakers’ second-round pick out of Gonzaga would return to the team five days after being sent down the D-Fenders. In three games in the D-League, Sacre averaged 7.7 points and 9.7 rebounds.

Coach Mike D’Antoni says Pau Gasol has been struggling with knee tendinitis and wasn’t sure if he would have to sit the Spaniard as a result. Sacre could see some playing time if D’Antoni decides to do so.

The 23-year-old Vancouver native was selected by the Lakers with the last pick of the 2012 NBA draft. Sacre finished his career at Gonzaga ranked second all-time in school history in career blocks with 186, while averaging 9.4 points and 5.0 rebounds in 135 games.

Sacre has played in eight games with Los Angeles this season, averaging 0.3 points and 0.3 rebounds in 2.4 minutes.
