Raptors Ambassador Drake hopes Curry, Warriors repeat as NBA champs?

And you thought Dwyane Wade’s national anthem shenanigans were scandalous!

Drake, the Raptors’ Global Ambassador, has been doing a ton of publicity of late in concert with the release of his latest album Views (check out a handy breakdown of all the sports references on the album here). He’s been front-and-centre at Raptors home games, and is scheduled to host Saturday Night Live this weekend.

His Drakeness also took part in a recent interview with Canadian cult hero (too much?) Nardwuar the Human Serviette. During their one-hour long discussion, the subject turned to one Stephen Curry, who is expected to win his second straight MVP award.

Here’s what Drake had to say:

Yes there’s a healthy chance he’s referring to Curry repeating as MVP. But whenever that interview was taped, it’s safe to say the Warriors superstar already had the award locked down. While his 2016 award isn’t official yet, it was hardly up for debate all season. In other words, there was nothing to be holding out hope for, as Drake put it.

But the Warriors title hopes? That’s a different story altogether. With Curry’s injury status uncertain, Golden State’s recent loss to Portland, and the Spurs and/or Thunder waiting in the wings, the Dubs’ road to a repeat should be extremely difficult.

In that case it’s a pretty a strange response given Drake’s own Toronto Raptors are still very much alive and well in the 2016 post-season.

If you’re not harbouring too much ill will, you can check out Drake’s full interview with Nardwuar here:
