Team president Masai Ujiri and the Toronto Raptors are reportedly set to fill their general manager vacancy by promoting assistant GM Bobby Webster, sources tell Sportsnet.
Already considered one of the fastest-rising executives in the NBA, at just 32 years old Webster will be the youngest GM in the league.
After beginning his NBA career as the associate director of salary cap management at the league’s head offices in New York City, Webster was one of Ujiri’s first hires when he first took the GM job back in the summer of 2013.
Webster was initially hired as vice president of basketball management and strategy and was named assistant GM prior to the 2016-17 season.
Back in late May acting GM Jeff Weltman, who was instrumental in acquiring Serge Ibaka from Orlando prior to the trade deadline, left the Raptors to become the president of basketball operations for the Magic.
At his pre-draft press conference last week, Ujiri noted that he had made a decision on the club’s next general manager, and that an announcement would be forthcoming. Webster is expected to be officially introduced in his new role this week.
