Blues not expecting Vladimir Sobotka back any time soon

Elliotte Friedman and Damien Cox discuss all the top headlines in the NHL, including concussion spotters, Colorado Avalanche trade rumours, and Martin Brodeur’s thoughts on changing the size of nets.

According to St. Louis Blues general manager Doug Armstrong, the team is not expecting Vladimir Sobotka back any time soon.

Mentioned in Elliotte Friedman’s most recent 30 Thoughts, Armstrong said in an email that the Blues “have no plan for (his return)” to the club.

Sobotka left the Blues as a restricted free agent at the end of the 2013-14 season and signed a three-year contract with Avangard Omsk of the KHL.

Should he return to the NHL, he would not be subjected to waivers, and St. Louis would retain his rights on a one-year $2.725 million contract.

The 28-year-old would then become an unrestricted free agent.

In his last year with the Blues, the Czech centre had 33 points in 61 games. He currently has 23 points in 26 games with Avangard Omsk.
