Canadiens’ Schlemko out 3-4 weeks after hand surgery

Logan Couture scored twice and the Sharks won 5-2, handing the Canadiens another loss to put their record at 1-4-1.

Montreal Canadiens defenceman David Schlemko has undergone surgery to remove a bone fragment in his right hand and will miss the next three to four weeks.

The 30-year-old has yet to make his Canadiens debut since being acquired from Vegas in a trade the day after the Golden Knights selected him from San Jose at the NHL Expansion Draft.

Schlemko had two goals and 18 points in 62 games with the Sharks last season.

The Canadiens are in Los Angeles to play the Kings on Wednesday.
