EDMONTON — The Edmonton Oilers claimed Finnish goaltender Niko Hovinen off waivers on Friday.
The 24-year-old played 16 games this season with the Trenton Titans of the ECHL. He registered a 3.14 goals-against average and an .889 save percentage, with a record of 4-6-3.

Hovinen was drafted by the Minnesota Wild in the fifth round in 2006, then signed a two-year entry level contract with the Philadelphia Flyers in 2011.

The Oilers are missing 40-year-old goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin who is on injured reserve with an ailing hip.

Edmonton is 2-1-0 with the goalie tandem of Devan Dubnyk and backup Yann Danis.
