Liam Draxl got Canada on the board in its Davis Cup tie against France.
Draxl defeated Arthur Rinderknech 6-2, 7-5 in the first singles match of the tie on Friday at the Videotron Centre.
Draxl had nine aces and converted on three of his 10 break-point chances.
The 24-year-old also saved all three of Rinderknech’s break-point opportunities.
Montreal’s Félix Auger-Aliassime is scheduled to face Quentin Halys in the second match later Friday.
