The San Jose Sharks have acquired a new defenceman.

The team claimed Vincent Iorio off waivers from the Washington Capitals on Thursday.

In a corresponding move, defenceman Timothy Liljegren was placed on injured reserve.

Iorio, 22, spent the 2024-25 season with the Hershey Bears of the AHL, posting 20 points (five goals and 15 assists) in 67 games.

Drafted 55th overall by the Capitals in 2021, the Coquitlam, B.C., native has appeared in nine career NHL games with Washington, recording one assist.

Iorio is in the final year of his three-year, entry-level deal and will be a restricted free agent at the end of the season.
