The Toronto Raptors have parted ways with assistant coaches Tom Sterner and Bill Bayno, according to Ken Berger of CBS Sports.
Sterner, who’s been with the Raptors since 2011, was revered by fans for his unique sideline interviews. His resume as an NBA assistant is deep, having worked for the Dallas Mavericks, Orlando Magic and Golden State Warriors.
Bayno joined the Raptors in 2013 after spending two seasons as an assistant with the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Raptors head coach Dwane Casey has known Bayno for a decade and pursued him to work with Toronto’s younger players. Bayno is a “very good teacher,” Casey told the StarTribune in Minnesota last year.
Bayno worked closely with young centre Jonas Valanciunas during his time with the Raptors. The 53-year-old has also worked as an assistant for the Portland Trail Blazers and was head coach for University of Nevada-Las Vegas and Loyola Marymount University.
While the uncertainty surrounding Casey’s job as head coach was put to rest last week, changes to his staff were expected.
