The bye week may have come at the perfect time for the Calgary Stampeders.
Both starting quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. and star running back Dedrick Mills were injured in Calgary's Week 11 loss to the B.C. Lions.
But with a bye in Week 12, the extra time off may allow Adams and Mills to avoid missing Saturday's Week 13 game against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
“(With Adams) we certainly are still making sure that we’re OK to get him back,” Stamps head coach Dave Dickenson told reporters on Tuesday. “Both (he and Mills), I think, are trending positively. Mills just seemed to bounce back a little bit quicker.”
Adams and Mills both left against the Lions in the fourth quarter and didn't return.
"Both are going to be like head injuries," Dickenson said after the game. "Those can last a long time. You don't know when they're going to be healthy."
If Adams or Mills have to miss any time, it would be a big blow to the Stamps as they fight for a playoff spot in the West Division.
Adams leads the league with 22 touchdown passes, while Mills sits fourth in rushing yards with 756.
Calgary enters Saturday's game against Hamilton last in the West with a 4-6 record, but is just two points back of both Winnipeg (5-5) and B.C. (5-5).
