SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. — Calgary’s Chelsea Carey has advanced to the Boost National quarterfinals after rallying back to clip Winnipeg’s Jennifer Jones 8-7 in Saturday morning’s tiebreaker draw at the Essar Centre.

The reigning Scotties Tournament of Hearts champ Carey was down by two points holding the hammer in the seventh, settled for a single and then stole a pair in the final end to complete the comeback and oust the recent Canada Cup winner Jones.

Meanwhile, two-time world champion Binia Feltscher of Switzerland also qualified by defeating Sweden’s Anna Hasselborg 5-3.

Charley Thomas topped Brendan Bottcher 7-4 in an all-Edmonton team match for the final men’s playoff spot. Thomas now plays Brad Gushue of St. John’s, N.L.

Gushue went 4-0 through round-robin play in his first tournament back from a hip/groin issue. The six-time Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling event winner missed eight events to start the season. Coincidentally, Thomas filled in for Gushue on the St. John’s, N.L., team for a few events during his absence.

NOTES: The Boost National is the third event and second major of the 2016-17 Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling season. … Playoff action begins at Noon ET with the men’s quarterfinals draw. Watch live on CBC and Sportsnet NOW.
