Jones downs Kim to reach GSOC Masters quarters

TRURO, N.S. — Winnipeg’s Jennifer Jones defeated EunJung Kim of South Korea to advance to the quarterfinals of the Masters on Saturday morning.

Team Jones, the reigning Olympic champions, scored treys in the first, third and fifth ends to win the tiebreaker match 9-2.

Jones will face two-time Masters winner Rachel Homan of Ottawa in the quarters.

Meanwhile, Sasaktoon’s Steve Laycock took two in the sixth and stole one in seven to lift his team to a 6-3 victory over Glenn Howard of Penetanguishene, Ont.

Laycock meets defending Masters champion Brad Gushue of St. John’s in the men’s quarterfinals.

The Masters is the first major and second event of the 2015-16 Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling season and runs through to Sunday at the Rath Eastlink Community Centre.
