REGINA — A former Saskatchewan Roughrider has been sentenced to two years in a provincial jail for breaking down his ex-girlfriend’s door and beating up her new boyfriend.
Kennedy Nkeyasen (Nuh-KEY-ah-sen), who is 35, had previously pleaded guilty to the home invasion and assault, which happened in October 2009.
The Crown had asked for a sentence in the neighbourhood of four years and the defence wanted a community-based sentence.
The judge took into consideration that Nkeyasen had taken responsibility for the crime and had a clean record prior to the attack.
Nkeyasen was a safety and special teams player with the Roughriders from 1999 to 2007.
