As anticipated, the Kingston Frontenacs have selected Shane Wright with the first overall pick in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection.

After posting 150 points in 72 games with the Don Mills Flyers in Minor Midget AAA — which helped him win GTHL Minor Midget Player of the Year — Wright was granted exceptional player status by the OHL.

The 15-year-old is only the fifth OHL player to receive the honour, joining John Tavares, Aaron Ekblad, Connor McDavid and Sean Day.

One day before the draft, the Frontenacs confirmed the team would be selecting Wright with the No. 1 selection on Saturday morning.

The six-foot, 183-pound centre is expected to be eligible for selection in the 2022 NHL Draft.
