KENT, Wash. — Reid Duke scored 2:59 into overtime as the Brandon Wheat Kings beat the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-2 on Tuesday to move one win away from becoming the Western Hockey League champions.
John Quenneville struck twice in regulation for the Wheat Kings, who can claim the Ed Chynoweth Cup with a victory on Wednesday when Seattle hosts Game 4.
Alexander True and Keegan Kolesar found the back of the net for the Thunderbirds and Mathew Barzal earned an assist on each goal.
Brandon’s Jordan Papirny made 22 saves for the win as Landon Bow kicked out 32-of-35 shots for Seattle.
The Wheat Kings went 0 for 3 on the power play while the Thunderbirds scored twice on three chances with the man advantage.
All three games in the series have needed overtime and were decided by a 3-2 score.
