The Colorado Avalanche signed forward Matt Nieto to a two-year deal, the team announced Friday.
The contract is worth a total $3.95 million, carrying a $1.975-million cap hit through the 2019-20 season. Nieto was one of two Avalanche RFAs to file for arbitration, along with Patrik Nemeth.
Nieto has fit in well with the Avalanche since being claimed off waivers by the club from the San Jose Sharks in January 2017. The 25-year-old winger tallied a career-high 15 goals in 74 games in 2017-18.
“Matt brings speed and offensive depth to our lineup,” Avalanche general manager Joe Sakic said in the team’s press release. “He adds a lot of energy to our team and was a big part of our penalty kill this past season. We’re excited to have him back for the next two years.”
The Long Beach, California native has registered 50 goals and 57 assists in 338 career NHL regular season games split between the Avalanche and Sharks.
