Avs’ Landeskog nails Preds’ Ekholm with nasty stick infraction

Watch as Gabriel Landeskog gives the Colorado Avalanche a glimmer of hope with a 5-on-3 power play goal in the third period of Game 4 against the Nashville Predators.

We’ve already seen a handful of suspensions and a number of questionable stick infractions this post-season and Gabriel Landeskog joined the party Wednesday night.

The Colorado Avalanche captain, with two hands on his stick, gave Nashville Predators defenceman Mattias Ekholm a shot to the face following a scrum in the Preds’ end with 6:32 remaining in the second period of Wednesday’s Game 4.

After the play was blown dead because the puck was frozen along the boards, Ekholm gave his countryman’s leg a little tug with his stick and Landeskog retaliated.

Ekholm received a slashing call on the play, although we’re not exactly sure why, while Landeskog was assessed two minutes for roughing.

Landeskog’s post-whistle shenanigans was somewhat hypocritical, as well, after what he said following a chippy Game 3.

“Some of their guys, that’s the way they want to play — they want to play after whistles not in between and we’re kinda the opposite,” he said Monday. “So we’re going to try to stay outta that.”

The Predators held on for a 3-2 win and now hold a 3-1 series lead.

Game 5 of this unexpectedly physical series takes place Friday in Nashville.
