Recently retired NHL defenceman Brooks Orpik is remaining with the Washington Capitals organization as a member of its player development department.
Orpik, who played 15 seasons between the Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins, will work with Washington’s defensive prospects, primarily in the American Hockey League.
“As a member of our team, Brooks was a tremendous leader and a great role model for our young players,” Capitals general manager Brian MacLellan said in a statement.
“We are excited to be able to bring him back in this new role. We feel he will be a great resource for our hockey staff and our prospects.”
Orpik won two Stanley Cups during his career and played 1,035 games while contributing 194 points.
The 38-year-old also represented the United States at the Winter Olympics in both 2010 and 2014.
