Canadiens sign Jordan Weal to two-year extension

The Montreal Canadiens have signed centre Jordan Weal to a two-year, $2.8 million contract extension.

The one-way deal carries a $1.4 million cap hit through the 2020-21 season.

The Canadiens acquired the North Vancouver, B.C., native from the Arizona Coyotes at the trade deadline for forward Michael Chaput.

Weal scored four goals and six assists in 16 games for Montreal and had 21 points – matching a career-high – in 63 games split between the Coyotes, Canadiens and Philadelphia Flyers.
