Canucks to use buyout on defenceman Ballard

Keith Ballard just wants an opportunity to play now that he'll be moving on from the Vancouver Canucks.

Keith Ballard will be bought out by the Vancouver Canucks, his agent Ben Hankinson confirmed to Vancouver’s News 1130 Wednesday.

The Canucks defenceman, who had a $4.2 million cap hit until 2014-15, was placed on waivers Monday and cleared on Tuesday.

The 30-year-old registered just two assists in 36 games with the Canucks last season.

Following the news, Ballard spoke to Sportsnet about his buyout and time in Vancouver.

Ballard -I think I’m perfectly capable of going into a situation and earning a spot and getting an opportunity and that’s what I plan to do.
