The Anaheim Ducks have signed defenceman Jani Hakanpaa to a one-year contract, the team announced Wednesday.
Hakanpaa, 27, tied for second in goals among Finnish Elite League (Liiga) defencemen after recording 11 goals and 23 points in 52 games with Karpat. In his Liiga career, Hakanpaa posted 25 goals and 81 points with a +76 rating in 298 career games with Karpat and Espoo.
Hakanpaa was selected by the St. Louis Blues in the fourth round of the 2010 NHL Draft, 104th overall. He earned six goals, 20 points, 86 penalty minutes and a +20 rating in 132 career AHL games with Peoria and Chicago from 2012-15.
The six-foot-five defenceman won gold with Finland at the 2019 World Championship and bronze at the 2010 Under-18 World Championship.
