Mark Hunter’s future with the Toronto Maple Leafs could become known in the next few days according to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman.

But sources have also told Friedman that the expectation is that Hunter will leave the team.

Hunter is currently an assistant general manager with the Leafs. He was passed over for the general manager job, which went to Kyle Dubas after Lou Lamoriello was removed from the position.

Hunter, 55, joined the Maple Leafs in 2014 after serving as GM of the OHL’s London Knights for 12 seasons.

There are currently no open general manager positions in the NHL after the Minnesota Wild hired Paul Fenton for the job earlier Monday.
