The Calgary Flames have agreed to terms on a one-year, two-way contract with defenceman Rinat Valiev, the team announced Tuesday.
The 24-year-old Russian rearguard will earn $700,000 at the NHL level in 2019-20.
Valiev, a restricted free agent, filed for arbitration earlier this month but Tuesday’s deal means the two sides avoid a hearing. His NHL stops include the Toronto Maple Leafs (10 games in 2015-16) and Montreal Canadiens (two games in 2017-18) before being dealt to the Flames back in October. Valiev has yet to suit up for Calgary, having spent the 2018-19 campaign with the club’s AHL affiliate in Stockton. In 57 games with the Heat last season, Valiev recorded four goals and 21 points with 51 penalty minutes.
