The Carolina Hurricanes have signed Sacred Heart University forward and Hobey Baker Award finalist Jason Cotton to a one-year, entry-level contract, the team announced Tuesday.
The Hurricanes also announced that they had signed Jason’s brother, fellow forward David Cotton, to an entry-level deal.
“David and Jason both had very productive senior seasons this year,” said Hurricanes president and general manager
Don Waddell in a press release.
“We’ve been pleased with David’s progress over his four years at Boston College, and his brother Jason was recently named a Hobey Baker Award finalist. We’re excited to see what they can accomplish at the professional level.”
Cotton’s deal will see him paid $700,000 at the NHL level and $50,000 in the AHL. The 25-year-old from Parker, Texas, will also receive a $25,000 signing bonus.
The six-foot-three, 190-pound forward was named a finalist for the Hobey Baker Away after putting up 37 points in 34 games for Sacred Heart this season.
The team captain recorded 81 points across 110 NCAA games over three seasons with Sacred Heart (2017-20) and in eight appearances with Northeastern University in 2015-16.
