Marlies choose Spott as next head coach

Steve Spott was Canada's coach at the world juniors in 2013.

The Toronto Marlies have found their replacement for Dallas Eakins.

According to Sportsnet 590 The Fan’s Mike Farwell, the Marlies have chosen Kitchener Rangers bench boss Steve Spott as their next head coach.

Spott, 45, has spent the last four seasons with the OHL’s Rangers and was the head coach of Canada’s world junior team in 2013.

He was originally hired in Kitchener to replace Peter DeBoer, who has coached the Florida Panthers and New Jersey Devils in the NHL.

The Marlies had a head coaching vacancy after the Edmonton Oilers hired Eakins last month.
