McDavid, Eichel could play at World Championship

Elliotte Friedman and Damien Cox discuss the latest news around the hockey world, including a possible face-off between top prospects Jack Eichel and Connor McDavid in the World Championships.

Connor McDavid and Jack Eichel could represent their countries at the 2015 World Championship.

According to Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman, if McDavid and Eichel are available to play, it seems likely that they will be invited by their respective countries.

Eichel, who currently plays for Boston University, will eligible to play for the United States since the NCAA Frozen Four tournament will be completed before the World Championship begins. The 18-year-old forward has 24 goals, 43 assists in 37 games with Boston this season.

McDavid is more of an uncertainty for Canada. His availability depends on how the Erie Otters fare in the Ontario Hockey League playoffs. He won’t be able to play unless the Otters are eliminated.

The 18-year-old Canadian prodigy has 44 goals, 120 points, and a plus-60 rating in 47 games with Erie this season.

McDavid and Eichel are universally expected to be the top two selections of the 2015 NHL Draft.
