MONTREAL — Defenceman Brian Campbell will play in his 1,000th NHL game Tuesday when the Florida Panthers take on the Montreal Canadiens at the Bell Centre.
It will also be Campbell’s 375th consecutive game for the Panthers, a new franchise record.
Campbell, 36, has never missed a game in his five seasons with Florida.
He made his NHL debut with the Buffalo Sabres in the 1999-2000 season and also played for the San Jose Sharks and Chicago Blackhawks.
Panthers head coach Gerard Gallant lauded Campbell’s consistency and his preparation for each game.
“He’s not a physical player,” said Gallant. “But he uses his smarts and his skill and his speed. That’s the way he plays the game. I think he’s one of the top in the NHL in plus/minus.
“He’s reliable every night.”
Campbell, who’s plus-29 this season for the division-leading Panthers, has six goals and 25 assists.
Over his career, he’s registered 82 goals and 405 assists for 487 points.
Campbell also has 43 points (nine goals) in 97 Stanley Cup playoff games.
