Tod Leiweke is expected to be named Team President of the Seattle Hockey Partners, according to a report from Katie Strang of The Athletic.
Leiweke served as the NFL’s COO before stepping down from the position in March.
Leiweke’s brother, Tim, is the head of Oak View Group, the firm leading efforts to bring an NHL expansion franchise to Seattle. The city has not yet been awarded a team, but more clarity on the matter is expected in the coming months.
Oak View Group ran a season-ticket drive on March 1, collecting over 25,000 deposits on the first day, including 10,000 within the first 12 minutes.
If Seattle is eventually granted a franchise, the expansion draft would follow the same rules as the ones the Vegas Golden Knights had to abide by in 2017.
